Welcome to the community.

It means that there isn't a 7 day add-on option in Zone 3. If you pop the country that you're going to into our Roaming Calculator, it'll let you know a bit more information.

Thank you for your prompt response. I would appreciate your further advice on whether the following plan works:

I am a Pay Monthly customer and will be in Hong Kong from February 3 to February 15. Could I get two separate passes as follows:

February 3-7: 7 days x £7.50 (24-hour Zone 3 pass) = £37.50
February 10-15: 7 days x £7.50 (24-hour Zone 3 pass) = £37.50

Additionally, for example, during the trip, I received 2 calls, each lasting 2 minutes:
£2.34 x 2 x 2 = £9.36

The total cost will be: £37.50 x 2 + £9.36 = £84.36.

No problem at all. 🙂

I'm a little confused by your calculations. Are you not there between 8th - 10th February? I'll explain the add-on in a bit more depth, so it will help you figure out what you need.

If you opt for the daily £7.50 add-on, you'll be charge for each day that you use your phone for mobile data, make/receive a call or send a text (incoming texts do not trigger this). As soon as one of those actions are made, the £7.50 charge will be added and you'll have unlimited calls, texts and 500MB of data for 24 hours.

This means that you won't be charge per minute for the phone calls that you mentioned, as they'd be covered by the daily add-on.

If there are any days that you don't use the calls, texts or mobile data, you won't be charged for that day. If you can get by with just using WiFi for data, and keep calls and texts to a minimum, it would work out cheaper for you.

If you don't have the add-on, you'll be charged at the per minute/text rates on the roaming calculator, and won't have access to mobile data, unless you purchase a specific data add-on whilst you're there.

I'm also a little confused by the information on the EE website. 😅

For example, if I will be in Hong Kong for two weeks from 1/2 to 14/2, could you please advise if my understanding below is correct? If I only use my phone to receive two calls (regardless of the length) on 5/2 and 8/2, I would only be charged £7.50 on both days, meaning I need to pay £15.00 in total.

Additionally, according to the EE website, does this mean I can activate the pass after I land? Are there any settings I need to adjust before getting on the plane?

Not quite, @meili. Using mobile data, sending a text and making a call also trigger the daily add-on.

The add-on sits in the background on your account and only triggers if you make a call, receive a call, send a text or use mobile data. If there are only two days where that happens, you'll only be charge for those two days and be charged £15.

Yes, you activate it when you land. The 'welcome' message you receive will give you the instructions to add it.

Please also make sure that you've activated your SIM for international roaming by texting ROAMING to 150.

That's what I meant.

I only use my mobile for incoming calls from the UK, without making calls, sending texts, or using mobile data. The 24-hour pass would be triggered ONLY when I answer that call, correct?

If the add-on sits in the background & is only triggered when you make a mobile action, how do you explain this phrase in the Roaming Tool: "You may need multiple passes to cover the length of your trip"?

If you use the mobile services daily and are away longer than the pass covers, you would need multiple passes to cover the full duration of the trip.

@Leanne_T : OIC what was meant! In this case the pass only covers 1 day. So it's not really sitting in the background beyond the day it was bought. So the OP will need to keep buying daily passes if they don't know which days the calls are coming in..

@meili : If you don't know when you might be called you might need to buy the daily pass for every day of your hols. That would be 13 x £7.50 = £97.50. It'll be cheaper just to pay the standard call rate of £2.34 / min for incoming calls & not buy any passes.

Sorry for any confusion around this. I've looked into this further and it doesn't quite work as I said it would. For these add-ons, you actually have to select the add-on for each day that you want it. It doesn't automatically charge like I thought it did.

You'll have the option whilst you're there to select the add-on as and when you need it.
