Hi there.

I can see on other threads how to set up roaming for the US and that this costs £25.00 per phone. I have a family of 4 and am wondering if it's worth setting this up on a few phones and not all given we are X 4. We won't be making many phone calls (apart from maybe finding each other from time to time). We will be using data (after all we have 2 x teenagers). We are only there for 6 days. Does anyone know the pros and cons of getting a roaming pass vs paying as you go? Does that make any sense?

Thanks in advance

The pros & cons are the costs. If you don't opt for the Roaming pass, the costs are set out at https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile/roaming/roaming-costs > USA > Pay-monthly.

You can buy call & text bundles to reduce the costs from those, but £25/billing month for (most likely) unlimited usage won't take much to break even.

Also check when your billing date falls in relation to your trip - if you can add & subsequently remove the pass in the same billing month you'll only pay pro-rata. Once your bill ticks over, you pay for complete months.

Whatever you decide, ensure you enable the free roaming facility to unlock access to foreign networks and thus have coverage abroad. Text ROAMING to 150 before leaving the UK - this is free.

You'll just have to do the maths.

Outside the EU, if you are on contract, you may use your usual UK allowances there with up to 50 GB data per billing month if you have more, when you buy the Roam Abroad Pass for £25 / billing month or already have it as an Inclusive Extra or you have an EE Max Plan. Otherwise you will need to pay the charges or buy roaming add-ons as set out in https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile/roaming/roaming-costs/countries/usa.

As you are on contract, just remember to text ROAMING to 150 before you leave UK to ensure the roaming ability is enabled on your account.

All the above applies per no.

The Roam Abroad Pass costs £25 per billing month from the billing month you order it (text ROAMING PASS to 150) until the billing month you cancel it (text STOP ROAMING PASS to 150). For all billing months during which you have the Pass it is charged at the full £25. However if the Pass is carried over from the 1st billing month to the next it will be charged pro-rata for that 1st month alone.

Hi,

I would suggest to get one roam abroad pass.

If your other phones support esim, then you can use visible wireless trial which is free unlimited data, call and text for 15 days which is on Verizon network and works great.

T mobile offers same kind of trial as well l, free of cost.

All these works with esim.

You can try those.

Also, you can get three pay as you go sim cards, activate and buy a plan in the UK which you are allowed to use in the USA.

Hope it helps you.

Thank you.
