No, I didn't say that. I think they are indifferent and technically lazy. And if they can get away with it, they take our extra money for roaming and do not provide the full benefits advertised.

I think they have the ability to auto-select a network they have an agreement to provide full services with.

Same as problems in Slovenia. Pay as you go iPhone 12 (or 13) Mini, up-to-date software. Paid the ROAMEU7D cost and confirmed active. Phone calls and texts start working. Data does not start working.

Manually switching to a different carrier made it work. WHY DOES EE NOT TELL THE PHONE WHAT CARRIER TO USE FOR DATA AND PHONE TO WORK???

We used to get 'carrier profile update' notifications from time to time on the iPhone but I haven't seen that in years. Maybe it happens silently now. But if there's a way to call for one please let me know.

Next trip is Belgium. What provider should I use for working roaming in Belgium if EE steers me to a bad one again? EE, tell me now and save me some trouble trying multiple ones (which is a very slow process I might add).

My phone says it is using 'Network Provider" "EE 70.0" so I think that is the carrier profile version in use. Is that the latest?

Welcome to the Community!

We want your travels to be trouble free, so I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're having. Your phone will likely connect to the strongest network in the area when you enter the country, so there isn't much we're able to advise to ensure you connect to a network which will allow you to also use data, other than to keep doing so manually.

Thanks for answering. Really, though, that is just a ridiculous answer. I'm paying you to Roam Like Home and I have data working at home, so you are failing to provide the paid service (which is not that inexpensive either!).

Your roaming system should not allow my phone to automatically connect to networks with which you do not have an agreement to provide traditional mobile phone service AND data service.

This problem did not exist years ago when EU roaming was free by law.

Until EE gets this sorted out, can you please tell me which provider(s) I need to manually select to get voice and data service in Belgium and France. Thank you.

Do you think that EE intentionally & deliberately encourage auto-selection to choose networks in full knowledge of them having issues?

If you do, what possible motivation do you think they have for intentionally causing inconvenience to end users?

I called tech support. They cannot provide a list of carriers in France and Belgium that will work or not work. The support agent did recommend that Orange usually works and probably Vodafone as well.

I know there are a lot of mobile carriers in Europe but I think EE could handle keeping a public list on their web site to tell us which ones will provide data services when we connect to them and which ones wont.

No one else has these problems? Roaming auto-connects but data doesn't work?

One that causes a particular service - could be VoLTE, could be data, could be whatever - to not work?

Users get upset and some complain at having to use manual selection. And in the time taken to engage in "it's not good enough" style forum posts, they could probably try each network in-turn and resolve their issues.

Someone somewhere in EE roaming-towers will make appropriate adjustments as and when it's practical, I'm sure.
