It self resolved after 6/7 hours. Nobody reached out. I tried everything suggested in these replies, - airplane mode toggles, automatic network disabled, SIM card removed and reinserted after restart, messaging service, technical support call. It was super frustrating and late this evening it self resolved. Thank you for your replies this forum was more help than anything EE has on offer as a service provider.

Mobile data is not working abroad and there is absolutely no way to report this. Why not? Because EE does not allow the possibility to enter any information to raise a technical support ticket.

I called their helpline from a friends phone and spent 10 minutes in a loop which said you are in (London postcode) when I am actually abroad!

I am struggling with this can anyone help?

Hi @Bloozy

PAYG or pay monthly contract.

If you're pay monthly you could try the message feature on the app. If you did not activate roaming (pay monthly) then this will need to be activated.

https://ee.co.uk/help/contact-ee

The issue may also be with the foreign network which is outside EE control.

Thanks

@Bloozy : Can you make calls & texts?

Often just rebooting the phone is the simple remedy. Also try selecting a network manually rather than auto.

Did you receive a Welcome text upon arrival?

Are you on contract or PAYG? Had you used that SIM for making calls or texts in UK before leaving to go abroad?

If you are on contract, did you activate roaming on your EE a/c before leaving UK by texting ROAMING to 150? Having a roaming billing add-on doesn't of itself activate roaming on your a/c. Having roaming activated on your EE a/c, not just on your device, is crucial to using your contract SIM abroad.

Otherwise if you are on contract you need to call CS to get your roaming activated. Try calling CS on the Freephone no. in my sig. using a web-calling app over WiFi.

I did try the message feature first but technical support was not available except automated responses - these asked for postcode which isn’t useful if I’m overseas. However it’s resolved finally but I haven’t been told what happened for 6 hours today and missed some time critical messages

No it said 3G on my phone the whole time . I called using a friends phone but nobody answered from EE - I have a screenshot showing a 10 minute hold after which time I have no idea what the bill for that would be on my friends phone so I had to hang up . It’s bizarre there is no way to contact EE I. This situation when they sell contracts for roaming all day long
