Hi All,

I'm trying to work out if I need to do anything extra to use my plan's data when I go to the USA next week. When I set up the contract (a few years ago), I made sure that I was able to use my phone abroad at no extra cost but didn't go through country by country...! I went to Italy and Denmark this year and didn't do anything and everything was fine - no extra charges but I'm not as sure about the USA...

When I go through the text tennis of ROAMING and GOING, then I type USA for specific country and the automated replies stop. It says if you have a Max-Plan then USA and Canada is included. I don't think I have that but isn't clear what "extras" were added in when I set up the SIM Only. Any help would be great - failing that I'll have to endure the wait on the phone to check with someone.

Cheers!

Hello @ph41.

Welcome to the community.

When did you last upgrade your plan?

Please log in to your EE account online and let us know what plan you have. We will then be able to confirm if roaming in the USA is included.

There's two parts to this.

1: The ability to roam, i.e. use your phone on foreign networks. Ensure you have global roaming enabled and not just EU-roaming - follow the options by texting ROAMING to 150 to check this.

2: Costs to roam - https://ee.co.uk/help/help-new/roaming-costs provides detail but the basic question is whether you have the Roam Abroad add-on active, at £25/billing month. You would need account-access to be sure on this.

The Roam Abroad pass allows use of your UK allowances in the US, otherwise you will pay per minute, per text & per MB of data.

Cheers. I've found my list of add ons...looks like I am only covered for the EU for free roaming so will add the £25 for a one off month.

Outside the EU, if you are on contract, you may use your usual UK allowances there with up to 50 GB data per billing month if you have more, when you buy the Roam Abroad Pass for £25 / billing month or already have it as a Inclusive Extra or you have an EE Max Plan. Otherwise you will need to pay the charges or buy roaming add-ons as set out in https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile/roaming/roaming-costs/countries/usa.
