Recovering a number for a lost PAYG mobile

I have a low-use Pay-as-you-go mobile, so no contract or subscription, but the number is known to many friends and is associated with all sorts of 2FA.

What can I do NOW, to ensure that I will be able to recover the number should my phone be lost or stolen and I have to buy a replacement?

@IanOfYork : When did you previously make a chargeable action? EE PAYG SIMs are deactivated after 6 months of non-chargeable use. You then have a further 3 months period of grace to call EE to reactivate it before it is lost completely.

You need to make a chargeable action like making a chargeable call or text, topping up or buying a Pack or Add-on, not just using your mins, texts or data from your pack.

Sorry, but that is not the question.

The phone is currently alive and I do use it for texts and 2FA. I add credit every few months so that it stays alive.

Since the phone is "just" a PAYG, I am worried about losing the number if the phone is lost or stolen.

OK, in the event of losing your phone or having it stolen, you need to call CS to report the loss & they will block it & send you a replacement SIM with the same no. to your UK addy.

EE will just send me a free SIM which is already linked to a specific mobile number because I ask for one?

That sounds amazing.

How will they know that I am entitled to attach the mobile number that I tell them?

You should register your PAYG line with CS, by giving them your basic details and setting a security password to quote when you call.
