Hi Everyone

I bought an EE sim card from Ebay for use in a wifi router / dongle in our caravan. It was pre-registered by the seller so when I plugged it into the router, it started working straight away. I set up an EE account so that I could see how much data was being consumed / how much was left on the card (it's a 120gb sim card valid for 12 months). Now here's the thing - the sim card seems to be topping itself up without me doing anything - or paying anything. It went down to 86 gb, then a few days later when I checked my account, it's back up to 103 gb! Too good to be true? Is it a scam? What does the community think? Thanks in advance.

My question would be- where is being charged for these top ups??

If it's not you, then someone is gonna be sore when they notice. If it's you (did you provide any details?) then it might be worth just checking your statements...

Thanks for your response - I bought the sim card through Ebay - a one off payment for a 12 month sim. So I don't have an account as such where charges could be levied. That's why I'm wondering how this is happening / suspicious even?

@tangkhg : You really mean that the data is increasing. Topping up means adding money as credit on the a/c, which as @Richardo1930 points out somebody would be annoyed when they find out it's their money.

These pre-paid data SIMs are usually 120 GB over the year allocated as 10 GB / month. However an increase of 17 GB over a few days doesn't accord with that.

Visit http://add-on.ee.co.uk/status from a device connected to your mobile router by WiFi to see your data & credit status as well as its mobile no. at the top. What does it say, obscuring your mobile no.?

Thanks for your reply - you are correct, it is the data that tops up. My status says credit zero / remaining data 103 GB. But a couple of days ago, the remaining data was 86 GB, and I have done nothing to increase the data. I purchased this pre-paid sim card through Ebay. My worry is that this could be scam and somehow, this sim card could be harvesting important information? Is this even a possibility? It just feels suspicious. I feel that there's no such thing as a free lunch so where's the catch? I don't know, I'm no expert on this kind of thing.

I can't see how a SIM could be bugged.

I should my eye on it over the coming month.
