Old PAYG Sim - never used - is it now useless?

Hi,

I’ve found an old PAYG SIM that’s never been opened let alone used that I was hoping to put into a spare phone. Is it completely useless now as it will definitely be a couple of years since it was bought?

The packaging should have a "Use by" date on it.
