Standard SIM on pay as you go

Hi- I have ordered a standard SIM with no plan as I want to use it for work but not make any calls. Do I need to top up every 6 months with the minimum £5 credit or is there another way to keep the number active?

@Kelly888 To keep it active you need to top up at least every 3 months and or make a call send or text it’s not 6 months.

Within every 179 days (~ 6 months) you need to make a chargeable action like making a chargeable call or text, topping up or buying a Pack or Add-on, not just using your mins, texts or data from your pack.

Yes but how do I make a chargeable call or text without a plan? I prefer not to top up as I won’t use any of it. I just need to keep the number active and receive calls

You can't make a chargeable call or text w/out some credit & to have any credit if you don't already you'll need to top-up.

In fact if you did have a pack, any calls or texts from it would not be be chargeable.

Either way you need to top-up to keep hibernation at bay.

So how can I make a chargeable call if I can’t use any of the free mins from a pack?

Buying the pack itself would be the chargeable action.

If you currently have no credit, the only chargeable action you can make is topping-up.
