The answer depends on the reason for your number being out of service. Is it a PAYG phone that's been hibernated for non-usage? A pay-monthly phone suspended for non-payment?

Or something else?

It was once a contract and once it was over it became payg

Any past life as a pay-monthly phone is immaterial - if it's now PAYG, I would presume it's been hibernated due to non-usage over 6months.

If so, you can reactivate by contacting EE CS providing the last chargeable action was <273 days ago.
