EE sim card for tp-link 4g LTE

I have just purchased a £10 EE top up voucher for a TP link 4t LTE mobile WIFI. I inserted sim into the device but .it's not giving me access to the internet. What step have I omitted to do. I am currently with Virgin media.

@Lizzyp1 : In what way are you with VM? With an EE SIM you're with EE.

A Top-up voucher requires a text to be sent from the device holding the SIM. Can your router send SMS?

On a monthly plan with VM. No, the router is not able to message. The EE sim card is to big for my Samsung phone.

The TP-Link M7350 does do SMS. It has an envelope icon light on it, doesn't it?

Yes it does have an envelope icon on start up but there is absolutely no facility in the menu that enables messaging

Look for the Tools > SMS section.
