Hi everyone, I recently left the UK to head back to Australia and won’t be back in the UK again until next year. I was using pay as you go and would like to retain my number for when I’m back next year. I understand the sim will be cancelled after 6 months of not being used. Would it be possible to just do a small top up via the app prior to the 6 month mark to avoid cancellation or would I actually need to make a call or text to keep it active (in which case I don’t think I can do from Australia?). Thank you in advance for your help.

Yes, a top-up within the 6 months should prevent it going into hibernation.

You need to make a chargeable action like making a chargeable call or text, topping up or buying a Pack or Add-on, not just using your mins, texts or data from your pack.

i was wondering the exact same thing. i'm abroad with a PAYG sim with a subscription pack. I'm going to cancel the pack and make a manual top up now that EU roaming isn't included with my pack.

If I do manual top-ups, will I be able to keep ahold of my number - I really only need the number to receive SMS so I'd like to keep ahold of it if I can.
