this is going to be long and please bear in mind i no nothing about technology.

i have a pay as you go ee sim for my smartphone after years of avoiding a smartphone but deactivated the pack as i only use the phone for emergencies and i have a three mifi so it didn't seem worth the money given i could just use the mifi on the phone.

after years of having my three 3g mifi it soon got to the point i was somehow using a months worth of data in 2 weeks which was odd as i didn't think there was much change in my usage (although i could be wrong), i thought maybe it was old so i bought a 4g mifi and a new sim as i realised i couldn't use the old 1 however now i'm using a months data in 1 week.

annoyed i realised that during the pandemic where i did on occasion use an add on for the covid app it lasted much longer than i thought so have thought about using a ee sim in my three mifi which i understand is possible but i'm having trouble understanding if i can a new sim number that would go in the mifi on my existing ee account.

i assume if i tried to create a new account to accommodate the one that would go in the mifi then ee would say "this email is already registered" or something like that. so is it possible to have 2 sim numbers on 1 account?

If the router is unlocked you may put any SIM in it.

Yes, it's a normal EE PAYG phone SIM with a 30-day pack which you see described (w/out telling you it's 30 day), such as you could equally buy from the EE Shop's Pay As You Go SIMs

It is primed with the 30-day PACK15 of 15GB data + unlimited calls & text. You could text STOP PACK to stop it recurring but then what would you do? This is not a data SIM but a normal phone SIM with a standard recurring pack. You could find on Amazon more long-lasting EE PAYG Connected Data SIMs.

You could try an EE SIM in a Three MiFi unit, but personally I wouldn't recommend it even if the Router is Unlocked,.

Three do tend to mess around with the Firmware on there Mobile Routers, especially if there "3 Logo" badged.

Huawei are generally good Routers but with Three Firmware you may find that you only get a basic 4G Service over a more advanced 4G+ Service (improved speed) with an EE SIM inside it.

By all means try it, but be prepared.

as i said before my only experience with ee is my phone and for that i was able to deactivate the pack by text and discovered latter that i didn't need a rotating pack just to get data just an add-on, i preferred this as it gave me more control on what to spend and when i want data at all which is how i would like to go forward with the mifi which i would mostly use with my tablet.

i was not aware that there was a data only sim and would like to know which would be the best and more importantly how to remove the back assuming there's a way to do that without texting (as i would be using my tablet) and can just use add-on's assuming that's possible at all.

looking at the various options for sims i noticed the free option

https://shop.ee.co.uk/price-plans/free-sim?

i'm looking for a cheep one as i want to be sure the top up's are value for money (as i said with my three one i'm somehow using 7gb/£25 of a months data in a week) and would like to know if the problem is three or my data usage. would this free option give me what i want which is to top up when i want to and as much as i want to without a automated system deciding for me.

If you buy a PAYG connected data SIM there is no pack on it to stop. You just top-up & buy another data add-on when your data runs out.

EE's free PAYG SIMs are exactly the same as EE's PAYG phone SIMs that you pay for except they are not topped-up in advance. Once you top them up they are identical. They are both primed with a specific pack of allowances for data, calls & texts that last for 30 days.

This may sound obvious at this point but just to confirm I've now found this link for the free payg data sim

https://shop.ee.co.uk/broadband/mobile-broadband/free-mobile-broadband-pay-as-you-go-sim

I'm assuming this is exactly what I've been asking about? I.E just a top up with no pack that I top up only when I want to and just for data no calls or text, and more importantly free?

Yes, they don't have a pack on & can last 30 or 90 days, but they don't give you much data for the money.

In what way does topping up on a free one not give you much data for your money than topping up on a paid one does when it's just topping up? Do they not top up at the same rate.

Do you mean a free data SIM vs. a paid phone SIM with a pack?

For example:

A Data SIM can give you 30GB over 90 days for £44.

A Phone SIM can give you 3 consecutive packs of 3 x 15GB = 45GB over 90 days for 3 x £15 = £45.

Which is better value? The latter, phone SIM, in my eyes. Also it gives you inclusive texts which you might be able to use from your mobile router.

Show me a paid data only SIM. Do you mean these: Preloaded Data Only SIMs ?

Compared with my other examples the best they can do is:

A Paid Data SIM can only give you 20GB over 90 days for £60.

Yes, I get the same.

Why don't you order an EE Connected Data SIM from Amazon? They are usually better value & Amazon won't Error "HTTP 404".

It's exactly the same as you can get from EE for free. It's not a data SIM but an ordinary phone SIM with a £15 Pack that you need to top-up for.

EDIT: The advert on Amazon is dodgy with its description (500 mins & 5GB data) contradicting its image. It describes the £10 pack but claims it's £15.

How much data do you need & what are you prepared to pay for it? Maybe I can suggest something.
