Welcome to the Community!

We know how important it is for you to be able to stay connected, so I'm sorry to hear this is happening. Do you find have issues in a lot of places, or does it seem to be one main area where this is happening?

Hi Rach,

Thanks for getting back to me.

Unfortunately, the signal in Monkston Park, Milton Keynes, where I live, and the surrounding areas is practically non-existent. My phone shows 5G with one or occasionally two bars of signal, but in reality, there is no usable internet connection. Even basic things like making a phone call, sending a WhatsApp message or checking emails become almost impossible.

This isn’t just a problem in one particular spot. It affects a surprisingly large area, and it’s been an ongoing frustration for quite some time.

What makes it even worse is that we’re forced to rely on public or unsecured Wi-Fi networks just to stay connected when we’re out. That’s hardly ideal, especially when accessing banking apps, personal emails or anything involving sensitive information.

It’s also frustrating when you need to use Google Maps, check something online, make an important call or simply contact your family. In an emergency, not being able to make a reliable call or contact someone quickly is a genuine concern.

The most annoying part is seeing 5G displayed on the phone while being unable to do anything with it. It gives the impression that there’s coverage when, in practice, the service is unusable.

My entire family has already moved to other networks that offer much better coverage in our area. Somehow, I’m still here, probably because I’m ridiculously loyal to EE, although I’m beginning to wonder why!

I’ve been with EE for a long time, and I genuinely don’t want to leave, but loyalty can only go so far when you’re paying for a service you can barely use in your own neighbourhood.

I’d really appreciate it if EE could look into the coverage across Monkston Park and the surrounding areas, rather than treating this as an isolated issue with one customer’s phone.

I’d also like to know whether EE is aware of these problems and if there are any actual plans to improve the coverage in this area. At the moment, it feels like we’re paying for 5G but getting very little in return.

I'm not familiar with the area in question, and haven't reviewed it (although will do), but the description above seems a little blurred, for understandable reasons.

This doesn't sound an issue solely of coverage, but of data speeds/capacity, for which the fix is different to that of a pure "I don't have signal" problem. That said, voice calls are always prioritised such that even when data capacity is limited for whatever reason, VoLTE & VoNR should still be possible - this is intentional. If voice calls are failing when coverage is displayed (regardless of which "G"), something is awry and needs checking.

EE can only investigate problems they're aware of - so whilst performance metrics are used, end-user reports also matter.. users who don't report faults through formal channels, can't always expect issues to be known. And by extension, issues which may be network-side, can sometimes be dismissed as single-user ones if those multiple users are "suffering in silence".

I also note that the post above constantly refers to 5G service, I'm intrigued whether 4G has the same issues.
