Okay, many thanks for your help.

I'll order a standard SIM card when it is necessary. I have read that EE have excellent coverage in the Scottish Highlands.

best regards

HI folks,

I live in Germany and I currently have a sim card / account with Telekom.

I wish to go hiking in the Scottish Highlands next year, in areas with limited mobile phone network coverage. However, I see that EE has good coverage over the area I intend to hike.

To ask a simple question - to obtain access to the EE network, it would simply be a matter of ordering a EE sim card for my iphone, correct?

Many thanks

Garry

Hello @garrypaton70 ,

Welcome to the community,

You would certainly be able to get a pay as you go SIM card yes, you can get it once you land in the UK. To order one, you would have to have a UK address to have it sent to, so I would advise you to get it once here in the UK.

No, not from EE but you can get 1 from SIMLocal

Not directly from EE on Pay As You Go.

There are EE eSIMs available from SIM Local for visitors to the UK however.

One thing to be aware of...

EE operate 4G across multiple frequency bands, and in many parts of the rural Scottish Highlands especially, coverage is provided by low-band 800Mhz. Sometimes by itself, often in conjunction with mid-band 1800Mhz

Be sure that a foreign SIM you purchase, includes access to VoLTE/4G-calling, which is the gatekeeper for use of 800Mhz service.
