With "mobile-preferred", the phone will use the mobile network for all calls unless this drops below set levels at which point they will handover to WiFi.

With "WiFi-preferred", the phone will use any available WiFi-router for all calls unless this drops below set levels, at which point they will hand to the 4G-mobile network if it's available.

Hi, I have a Samsung S22 Ultra. Where I live the signal is never good, it seems to come and go. With WiFi Calling switched on I, make a call it goes through I cannot hear the person the other end, they cannot hear me. So I don't think WiFi Calling is helping. I can make WhatsApp calls they work perfect but not everyone has WhatsApp.

I am using a BT Smart Hub 2. It is so frustrating, I am paying for a service that is no good at home, I have to go out signal hunting to make phone calls.

TIA.

Andrew.

Welcome to the EE Community 😊

Have you had the chance to test any other devices in this area, including over WiFi calling, to see if they encounter the same issues?

Also when you're looking in the top right hand corner of your screen, can you see the WiFi calling icon, that should look like the WiFi symbol with a phone above it?

WiFi-calling is designed to only kick-in when there is minimal or no mobile coverage - you may therefore find that when you're on the edge of coverage, your phone is using the mobile network sometimes and WiFi-calling others.

There is an option on the network status tool to report "in-call audio problems", otherwise some Android phones do have the option of setting "mobile-preferred" or "WiFi-preferred" as the preference for WiFi-calling.

WiFi-calling options within "call settings" menu

Thank you Peter and Bristolian

Peter, I have not tried another handset to see if it makes any difference. I do have another phone I will try that.

I do have the WiFi Calling symbol showing.

Bristolian, today I tried putting my phone in to Airplane mode then made a call, it dialled out but the call quality was terrible, the person on the other end couldn't hear me.

I have got the WiFi Calling set to "WiFi Preffered", I have tried it on "Mobile Network Preffered". I've had this problem for ages, but since the mobile coverage has got worse recently WiFi Calling is more important so I can make calls.

Andrew...

Hi @Hogmonsta

Just let us know when you've followed @Peter_W's advice and tried a different handset.

Do you notice the call quality getting better when you're in other areas?

For WiFi Calling to work well, the WiFi connection you are using needs:

good WiFi coverage

a reliable internet connection

enough internet bandwidth available

Bandwidth is impacted by how many devices are connected to the network and by streaming services like Netflix or Zoom. Stopping a streaming service or disconnecting another device might help improve the quality of your calls.
