There was a lot of noise made by EE about them introducing 5G standalone in Swansea before the end of last year

Well I was in Swansea yesterday and there was no 5G standalone , my network monitoring said 5G NSA

When is it getting rolled out there? I visit frequently and wanted to see what the difference if any there is over the NSA variant

Yes I am on the full works plan, 5G standalone is enabled in my phone the iPhone 16 pro, if it were live the phone would connect but it's no live even though they did claim before the end of 2024

That's very odd, have you checked the postcode that you were in on their 5G SA checker? Will either say yes or no that it is covered, doesn't offer any further detail unfortunately.

I thought I had read on the announcement that they wouldn't launch a location until they had at least 95% outdoor coverage.

I have recently been able to use it successfully in Glasgow (one of the original launch cities however) while passing through and it worked like a charm on my S24 Ultra with the indicator present for VoNR, unfortunately the iPhone doesn't visually indicate the connection the same way. What are you using to check whether you're connected to NSA or SA?

EDIT: I have just checked an SA1 Swansea postcode and it says it is not available yet. I have no idea where that postcode is in terms of location however.

You can either enter a code and see the network info using field test mode ( *3001#12345#* ) or use the nPERF app

I guess they made a false statement then, Swansea is on the list but definitely isn't activated

So I tried to get in touch with customer service to understand if my tariff has 5G SA or not as my phone currently shows NR NSA. However the agents kept passing me to tech support teams and no matter how much to tried to explain what SA means, they kept asking if I have selected 5G or still on 4G. A bit irritating tbh!

So, if anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

Was back in Swansea this weekend and can now confirm I was getting 5G standalone in lots of places

The EE coverage map says it’s not available but that’s wrong and probably just needs updating

Id also assume if you’re selling plans that have 5G standalone as a specific bonus feature of that plan your agents would be well aware of this technology

I know the person who replied to me initially has no clue and then edited their reply to make it look like they did, no editing should be showed unless the un edited version is there for all to see

It then makes the person replying to it look silly because they’ve replied to a statement that’s then been completely changed

Anyway 5G standalone is live even if the official coverage maps haven’t caught up yet
