Which phones are supported on standalone 5G?

I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max and although I have the full works package shown in my account, I don’t seem to be able to enable/see the option to enable standalone 5G. From https://ee.co.uk/why-ee/5g-on-ee the criteria is:

be on an All Rounder or Full Works plan purchased on or after 29 August
have a compatible phone
be in a 5G Standalone location

The problem is, I can’t see further information as to the compatible phones.

Did you take the contract out after the 29th of August this year?

If not you can't enable Standalone 5G even if your phone does support it

I upgraded today. Standalone 5G is shown on my account. Enabled options on my account.

Thanks for coming to the community.

TCL 50, Moto Razer 50 Ultra and Moto G 85 5G are live on 5G SA now, as well as EE 5GEE WiFi and 5GEE Home.

The Samsung S23 & 24 line-up will be EE 5G Standalone enabled with VONR shortly, with further smartphones from Samsung, Microsoft, Google, Sony and ‘others’ due to be enabled in the coming months.

Which phone have you upgraded to?

I don't have that one showing as compatible just yet @Philt8 , but it is listed on the Apple website as one that will support 5G SA, so it may be available in due course.

Keep an eye on the latest software updates and the mobile data options in the Settings for the option to switch on 5G SA.

Thanks everyone. I do think it would be helpful for EE to publish a list of compatible phones, as they reference compatible phones.

@Philt8 You need the option to enable it on your device ( it’s in voice and data ). and you need to be on a tariff that has this.

Anything from the iPhone 13 line up and newer supports it, you will just need an R15 Physical Sim, or you can reinstall your eSim and it should work on iOS 18

Oh that’s interesting. I am on an eSIM on the iPhone 14 Pro.

I have tried re-provisioning the eSIM but the outcome stays the same on both iOS 18.0 and iOS 18.1.

Yep. I have iPhone 13 Pro Max, iOS 18.1, a brand new SIM card and new All Rounder plan. No toggle for SA. These phones are compatible, just EE want you to buy a new phone.

@Kingdaveontour As you’re using a beta software you should expect issues with it. Apple do like to enable and disable options on beta software. And no EE are not trying to get you to upgrade that’s your choice. Not sure what you hope to obtain by having SA as you’ve been happily using phones without it for years.

I know this thread is focusing mainly on iPhones but my Samsung Galaxy S23 was updated to One UI 6.1.1 last week which enabled 5G SA. I haven't noticed any benefit so far. In fact, signal and speed seem to be worse in some cases.

Does Samsung have a toggle to turn SA on and off similar to the iPhone or is it on by default I've just upgraded today so not familiar with how it works

Unless you have a contract that includes 5G standalone then you won’t get it. You will see 5G standalone under add-ons if you do have it on your account.

I have a contract with 5G SA and do get SA on my phone as shown by the Vo5G symbol in the screenshot above.

I have new Samsung S24 and was told EE 5G SA compatible.

Reading your post you are saying it is not yet compatible?

I have had 3 calls to EE level 2 tech team and they have not been informed of this.

I have an iPhone 15 Pro on iOS 18.0.1, a recent upgrade to the Full Works plan that includes 5G standalone, and a freshly provisioned eSIM. I can see the 5G standalone toggle in the settings, but it's greyed out and saying my SIM does not support 5g standalone. My local EE shop says the iPhone 15 Pro isn't supported, only the iPhone 16. Surely that can't be true! What's going on, EE?

@stoli412 The store have misinformation you. My iPhone 15 pro ( see image below) Just to add I do live in a 5GSA area. And my contract doesn’t have 5GSA as part of it. I’ve just toggled this on to show you. This is with an eSIM that I activated on my phone back in may. So way before 5GSA was available.
