Thanks. I tried that and was told it was not possible to upgrade the contract without paying a termination fee and taking a new contract. So seems it is not possible to get 5G SA without a very expensive upgrade. Disappointing for users like me tied into very expensive full works contracts that are nit actually full works.

I am an iPhone 15 user running iOS 18 and I am 10 months into a 24 month contract with a full works package but disappointed to learn I can’t access 5g standalone as it is only available to new customers. Are there any plans to make it available to existing customers like me without the need to upgrade.

Welcome to the EE Community,

If you call the services team on 150 they will be able to move you to the new version of the full works IPhone plan which includes 5G Standalone.

You definitely should be able to change the plan during the contract as @Profile closed mentioned, as long as it is moving upwards from your current plan. This would mean it is a higher price each month, but you'd be moved to the new range of plans that includes 5G SA.

I called EE and my option was to upgrade to their Unlimited All Rounder plan @ £42 per month, when I said it's showing £30 per month on their website for existing customers this is only available if you are adding it as a new plan.

Doesn't make any sense why it can be offered as an add-on.

Guys - I seriously wouldn’t worry about it.

I have tried 5G SA in both Bristol and Birmingham and the performance in both cities is very disappointing. I found 5G NSA more responsive to web requests and more reliable overall.

Not what I was expecting.

In addition to this - I also have an EE corporate sim in my iPhone 16 PM and I’ve noticed that whilst 5G SA is enabled on my personal eSIM, it drops down frequently to either EDGE or No Service whilst on the move (on a train certainly)…. the normal physical sim (which is 5G enabled but not SA enabled) stays pretty much on 4G/5G throughout. Switching my personal eSIM to 5G NSA mode eradicates the issue.

I’m having the same issues. I’ve just spoken to a level 2 tech support at EE customer service. They said there is a known issue with the new standalone tariffs and the connection to the SA masts for data speeds, they are looking into it. They gave me the option of reverting back to my old tariff without any penalties if I choose to do so.
