I am in Aberdeen (centre), and the 5g is terrible, generally slow, though not always.

Over the last few months it's been getting worse, the signal drops off to nothing after about ten minutes of use.

Considering the consistent advertising that EE has the best network and service, this performance is somewhat irritating.

I agree with the issues above, I am in Aberdeen and the 5g has become consistently worse over the past few months.

5g is completely unreliable and when the signal goes my phone is only able to send receive calls, no data functions at all.

I've seen comments about only checking speeds and connectivity outside, absolute rubbish! How can I be sold a comms device and only use it reliably outside.

I echo the other comments in the forum that Vodafone may become a viable option.

If your coverage is dropping to nothing, that would suggest a localised issue.

Although I'm puzzled about your statement "when the signal goes my phone is only able to send receive calls" - if you have no coverage, then the only way you can make & receive calls would be via WiFi-calling.

If you're in poor 5G coverage, it would be normal for your phone to drop back to 4G service instead. Are you saying this isn't happening?

I assume it's the signal part you are puzzled by....

As I am making the point about the 5g coverage, the signal I lose is the 5g signal.

My phone rarely goes to 4g.

I have 5g, my connection speed starts dropping, web pages, apps start to lag, then they can't connect, then I get '5g!' signifying loss of 5g, the phone remains in this state until the 5g returns. Anything up to ten minutes later.

Regards Shaun

It's pretty shocking contention issues are still so bad in 2024, reminds me of O2's 3G collapsing in 2008 when the iPhone 3G came out.

I'm in London and right now I'm getting 3mbps and crazy packet loss/ping on a high strength 5G connection. Horrendous.

Just come back to this... All the comments seem valid to me, but we are scouting round the issue, it's 2024, we are all using new phones, EE say they are running the best network... Yet there are still very basic connection issues.

I fully appreciate the variables within the system, however.. Connectivity is a basic phone requirement and EE market themselves as the best. If that's the case we don't have much of a phone network to be proud of do we.

It seems that if you buy a phone from EE and other networks, some will disable the menu allowing you to choose the network type. I had this with my S22 Ultra which was from EE yet another S22 Ultra from Samsung themselves had the option to turn off 5G. It's the same with my S23 Ultra which I bought direct from Samsung.

As for speeds, 5g is alright most of the time for me but there are still some areas where it struggles.

Yes, sorry, I should have been clearer. When I say it struggles, I mean, the speeds are absolutely rubbish. Turning off 5G gives me better speeds via 4G in these areas.

I’ve just got the new iPhone 16 Pro Max and took out a sim only Apple Full Works.

I was upgrading from XS Max so was expecting lightning speeds based in Birmingham City Centre but I’m left feeling underwhelmed after taking out this new contract.

I did a speed test on the new phone then hotspotted the XS Max and the XS Max was way faster.

XS MAX - 147 MBS

PRO MAX16 106.1 MBS

When we were in the EU and I was roaming abroad I found the connection and speeds were dreadful compared to the UK.

Having returned from Cyprus on Monday I can say the tables have definitely turned. I can't connect to any data service at home and around my local area I would say I have limited coverage in half the area despite EEs claims.

In Cyprus I was getting 400MB/S while roaming on 5g and almost always had a solid data connection.

The difference is Huawei is used in the infrastructure there as it used to be here. It is being or has been removed in the UK hence the poor performance everyone is receiving.

This is a decision made by the last UK government. Until a Huawei replacement ,deemed acceptable by the government finally starts improving their tech, we are stuck in the dark ages of modern communications and reliant on WiFi to fill the gap.

I find exactly the same thing. The EE signal on 5G last about a month or so then disappears completely. Even though the iphone sees it routers (various). Tried everything else. will just have to wait until half a million people complain then EE might look into it. wouldn't have this anywhere else in the world only UK. Because EE are running their network on a shoestring.

well EE won't even tell you what they are using - I think it's still huawei ?? but they refuse to say - even though under consumer law you are entitled to know
