Is there outages in the cumbria region, I have a 5g phone and showing 4g can't check social media or browser .

It's quite normal for a 5G phone to use the 4G network anytime 5G is unavailable - can you still make & receive voice calls? What happens when you try to use mobile data?

You can check coverage & outages using the status webtool - https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile-coverage-checker and follow "check coverage" or "check status"

Mobile data does not connect to anything on my phone...I'm using my friends hot-spot at the moment.

You didn't answer whether voice calls still work?

Try toggling flight mode if you've not done so already.
