When I text NUMBER to 150 it tells me I'm on an EE Plan.

I was with Orange years and years ago. I can't remember why or how I changed to EE but since joining them have changed my phone and started my current plan.

3G Close down

I don't use my mobile a great deal. My £1 (per week) Talk and Text pack (25 minutes, 50 texts and 600 mb after boosts) is more than enough capacity. I'm told by EE this operates on 3G ehich they are closing down so I must change by pack. The nearest equivalent is the £10 (per month) Pack which is more expensive and provides far more capacity than I need. Any suggestions for an alternative? When is 3G closing down? Nobody at EE seems to have a firm date.

@Suffolk8 : Packs have nothing to do with the 3G close down. Your phone, SIM and packs will still work on 2G. Just the data will be slower but it shouldn't affect your calls and texts.

The only alternative is to buy a 4G or 5G phone.

The date with EE is imminent but not yet definate.

There is a trial in Warrington underway currently, where there is now no 3G service. Anyone without a 4G phone can still call & text over 2G, but data will be very slow for even the most basic functions - and unusable for anything else. The only published timeline beyond that is that the switchoff should complete during 2024.

My current phone is 4G compatible. EE are telling me my pack is 3G specific and consequently I need to change otherwise I will not be able to access the internet other than when on wi fi. Are they just trying to make me 'upgrade' to a more expensive pack unnecessarily?

Packs can't be 'G' specific. Your SIM might be. Are you on a legacy EE 3G PAYG plan coming from Orange or T-Mobile? When texting NUMBER to 150 what network does it say you are on?
