Mobile signal on Barra

Why is the EE signal so poor on isle of Barra?
I see some can access services, I sure can’t. It shows 4bars but doesn’t connect. So no internet services. Is it a lack of bandwidth?? Or a broken mast???

If your phone shows a good signal, then that's not a coverage issue. There's several network sites on Barra, you've not said where on the island you are.

What services are you having problem with using on your phone? Do these issues vary by time of day?

Why is there STILL no signal for my mini Wi-Fi hub in Portree on its sim and my iPhone in both Portree and isle of Barra! Really frustrating!

Portree is in the inner Hebrides and Barra the outer Hebrides, so it sounds like there may be local coverage issues in those two areas. How long have you had problems for?

Thank you! I can do this at home but not when I’m in these areas.
my signal on isle of Barra shows four bars, however no signal.

in Portree, no bars no signal.

Just because there are four bars and the web service area checker states the service is there does not imply connectivity to which there is none!!
so four bars on your Wi-Fi dongle or mobile does not indicate you can connect to the internet!
EE is fast becoming like vodaphone, which I switched from two years ago for these issues!

now EE is no better! No connectivity!!! Frustrating trying to work!!!
goodness sakes EE fix your connectivity!

Seems many of us experience a lack of connectivity regardless of signal!
what’s with the bandwidth? Is it being reduced to force customers on to BT - The mothership?

I left vodaphone bc of the lack of connectivity!
these large corporations just don’t care whether you need the connectivity or not.

you can speak to someone but they just go thru the run of the mill suggestions which actually don’t work bc the problem lies in the connectivity not signal (in my case 4bars no connectivity).
so what is happening to the bandwidth is my question? If some from other parts of the country can get connected and others can’t the bandwidth must be reduced to only serve so many people. Hmmm.

im paying for a service I’m not getting! I’m pretty sure if I weren’t paying the service that was being provided the corporations would be pretty miffed. Right??

So is this an issue of no coverage, as the first few posts implied?

Or an issue of having service but slow data speeds? Spectrum is allocated at a site-by-site level and is part of the build configuration, there is no intentional reduction - if anything the opposite is true.

There is supposed to be coverage however there is no connectivity when once there was great connectivity. One could reply to emails, text and make phone calls, however now one can’t in those areas. It’s shows service is good but in reality, one cannot connect to the internet under any circumstances. When one attempts to connect - 1. the call fails, 2. message comes up you are not connected to the internet, 3. The text displays not sent.

It is incredibly frustrating when you pay for a service in a remote rural area and do not receive that service.
The only explanation I can think of is reduced bandwidth in these remote rural areas.
I live here and travel back and forth and previously there were no issues and now one can’t even connect to the internet.

I’ve changed my phone, changed the sim, so if it’s not me then the logical answer is it’s reduced bandwidth if the service is showing good service.

it states service is good but one can’t call, text or reply to emails on the road as there is no connectivity. I’ve changed my phone and sim still nothing. Very frustrating. I’m aware that there are others with the same issues.

hello Bristolian,

There is absolutely no connectivity in Castlebay or at my home in Borve, or on the Northend of the island. No texting, no emailing, no web browsing. there are a few of us who have this issue.
I’ve changed my phone and sim, still nothing at any time of day. I have to return to base to use fixed internet to communicate. Not exactly what I asked for.

Since others are experiencing this I would recommend reporting this to our technical care team. You can do this via the status checker or by contacting 150, the team will then be able to look into this further.

There is no incentive on EE to intentionally reduce capacity on a site-by-site basis, although it's quite possible there's a local issue that is causing some 4G carriers to be unavailable - those should be listed on the "check status" facility.

In either case, I would recommend following the advice already given - every affected user should report this using the "report a problem" link in the first instance, and follow-up via CS if that doesn't rectify.
