Mast Installation Application

Hi all

I've recently moved to ar rural area in low spot between two hills where there is zero mobile signal or data (any network). I can luckily still get calls with WiFi calling but if the power goes out (frequent in winter!) that's all lines of communication gone.

As well as the health and safety aspect of ensuring more elderly people living in the village being able to have a means contacting people in an emergency I have also found out you can't get a smart meter as they rely on a national network signal. Not sure if this can use a providers mast or not. Does anyone know the process of applying for a mast to be erected. Land won't be an issue. I've seen historic posts on this forum but the responses are all private messages. Any help appreciated.

We have land just over the hill (few mins drive) but not sure whether it
would deal with our signal black hole as we're in a topographic low area.

There are lots of farmers land around here too who I'm sure would also be
happy with mast but likely need a rental fee at standard rate. I could
enquire.

Also do can you confirm whether an EE mast would enable use of smart
meters? Would also be a big sell to the village community.

If you personally don't own the land you really can't put in an application for someone else's land.

Speak to the land owner and see if they are willing and they could start the process.

Having a new network site installed isn't an application process as such.

A willing-landowner is one of the steps in bringing a new site live, but planning & legal consents are also required.

The forum staff can often take details of landowners who would like to offer land for consideration.

Well I do own land just not sure its location will provide signal for the
low spot just over the hill. If I can understand the process but my site
isnt suitable i can at least explain it to the landowner. They may not
benefit from the mast so won't be doing much research in to this. I just
need to know what the process is, the planning requirements and any lease
agreements etc. Was hoping there'd be some online guidance.

The process is not easily explained on a forum such as this. You may be interested in https://srn.org.uk/ for info on the cross-industry rural coverage initiative.

There used to be a promotional video that gave a short run-down of a new site install, but it may have been removed - I can't find it to hand.

Planning permission is usually required for a new site build.
