4GEE Mini will not connect to Mustang Mach E

EE just upgraded my old in car WiFi device from, I think it was called a Buzz and went in the 12v lighter hole, to a 4GEE Mini.
all my devices connect fine but the car, which did connect to the old thing, will not. I have looked at the Mach E forums and they talk of similar problems with other networks but are talking about DNS settings. There are very limited amount of settings on the 4GEE Mini and I have tried everything from WAP2 to WAP/WAP2, 2.5 to 5, security etc but my car just says unable to connect. If I put in the wrong password the car says it’s the wrong password so I know it’s talking.
Any thoughts?

How does the new device connect to the car?

Is it plugged in or through something else like Bluetooth?

Jon,
It has a modem and connects via WiFi. I can connect the car to the house wifi network and I can also connect to my phone via hotspot. It also connected ok to the Buzzard with the EE sim. It’s just the new Mini that it refuses to connect to.
I select wifi networks in settings on the car and enter the password.

No real error message just “Sync was not able to connect to 4GEE Mini”. That’s after i put the password in. If I put the incorrect password it says it’s the wrong password.

Could you try forgetting all of your connections and re-setting them up from scratch, @Laika?

Other than completely resetting the new device and trying again, the best ting to do would be to get in touch with our Tech Gurus.

They will be able to run through advanced troubleshooting steps with you to try and get this connected.

Called the “gurus”. That’s an hour of my life I’ll never get back. I’m sat in the car logged in on the Mini settings with my iPad and settings up on the car and on the phone to these so called gurus who suggest turning it off and on again. Wow, never thought of doing that. After an hour with very little dialogue the guy says it must be faulty and needs to be repaired. Never looked at or asked to check any settings.
He just read from a script and went for the easy option, it’s busted. Well it’s not a hardware problem it’s a settings or software problem.
I think it’s time to return, refund and try someone else.

I'm sorry this was not resolved for you.

If you log into the device settings, do you have the option to select either 2.4 or 5 GHz WiFi bands?

To access settings, please open a web browser and in the address bar, then enter 192.168.1.1 press enter, from the home page, select log in here to access settings and this should show within WiFi settings.

Thanks for still trying.
I had done that but had another go, still no joy.
Here are some of my setting on the car and 4GEE Mini.
I renamed it Hercules but you can see my phone connects and the network is visible on the car. Although it is the hotspot settings in the image, you can see it’s 5ghz and WPA/WPA2.
They talk to each other because it knows when I put the wrong password in.

By default it was 2.5 so yes.

In this case I would suggest contacting the car manufacturer to see if this device is compatible and if they have any suggestions for you to try.

I looked through some Mach E forums and there appears to be a common theme of DHCP being an issue.
I plugged in my old Buzzard 2 and it connected to the car instantly. Looked through the settings to see why it would and the 4GEE Mini would not.
you can set ranges for DHCP on the buzzard but there are no such settings on the mini?

Any thoughts? I would rather use the mini than the buzzard.
