Should I be using the 1 in to 2 adapters and will they have any long term effects on the router or if I used something else would it be better. If they are okay to use does the order in which I plug them in to the router matter.

Dont use them, see above.

2. Did TSG use the correct antenna as the way they suggest to use the antenna is only using the top 2 ports with normal SME to TS9 adapter in any order.

They use Panorama Antennas, which is what they are probably supplied with by EE, sadly though the fitted a 2x2 Mimo Antenna on what we believe is a Router with 4x4 Mimo inputs.

3. If a 4x4 antenna would be more beneficial, how much better would it perform, what are the benefits and what antenna would be best (I live in Hackney Wick, East London)

Theoretically 2x2 Mimo gives close to 200% Speed (x2) over normal, 4x4 Mimo gives close 400% Speed (x4) over normal, doesnt always work this way in practice though.

4. If I bought another 2x2 antenna to use the bottom two ports so all 4 ports are used up would that be a suitable solution that will perform just as good as one 4x4 antenna. (I already have one which was supplied to me through EE free of charge which is the reason I’m asking this as it will be cheaper for me to just buy another 2x2 antenna)

Yes, 2 lots of 2x2 Mimo Antenna (of simular Specs) will or should perform the same as a 4x4 Mimo Antenna, try and get a bit of spacing between them as well.

5. If I did buy another 2x2 would I face both antennas in the same direction or would I point the second one to a weaker mast available about 60 degrees to the left of the first anttenna.enna already installed.

In pratice pointing in the same direction, but have a play with it, as MiMo can sometimes perform better if the Second MiMo Signal (or in the Case of 4x4 Mimo) Second and Fourth MiMo Signals gets reflected of another external source.

6. Can these router and antennas connect to 2 masts at the same time and draw better speeds and a more stable connection. if they cannot what will happen ?

Great Question, using Multiple Masts, in theory LTE allows this, in practice the Networks tend to only use the Mast that the Device is Registered on, and for Carrier Aggregation, although again in LTE the CA can come from another Mast.

5G NSA currently works like this, in the early Days of 5G NSA Roll Out, you will probably fine the 5G Signal is only on few selected 4G Masts (5G NSA sits on top of the 4G Network) so typically 1 5G Signal to every 3 or 4 4G Masts, its then grouped together to allow 4 and 5G Coverage, so yes your 4G Signal could be coming from Mast A and your 5G Signal from Mast B.

7. Is there any benefit to a second antenna facing the other mast for example if one mast site went down would the second antenna be able to keep me connected as it’s facing a different mast site.

Pointing Directional Antennas in deferent Directions for Network Fullback is a bit overkill your better off using True Omni Directional Antennas instead.

I have attached a few photos of the antenna how it’s been set up and the router itself with and the different connectors I mentioned above.

sorry for such a lengthy question on a older thread but it seemed like this is one of the best threads talking about the same sort of issue.

EE and TSG don’t really have a clue about their own products or anything technical and ever time I’ve phoned they’ve not know any of the answers to the questions above.

In all fairness to Face to Face Installers, there probably just Contractors and are only as good as the Info, Parts, Stock and Tools that they are given or have at there disposal. I would agree though, that EE need to sort out this business of supplying and fitting a 2x2 MiMo Antenna on there own 5G Router which is believed to be a true 4x4 MiMo Router with 4x Antenna Connecters, especially when Panorama do actually make a 4x4 Mimo External Antenna.

I look forward to hearing back from you guys and thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Regards

Barz

In a word, No, this Antenna is not compatable with your Router it doesn't cover the correct Frequency's for the UK.

Also this is a 4x4 Mimo Antenna, most LTE Routers are 4X4 but only have External Ports for 2x2 Mimo External Aerials, do you happen to know how many Antenna Ports/ Plugs on the Router? per chance.

Normally I would Recommend 4/5G Antennas made by Poynting, Huawei or Panorama, plus a few more for Specialist Directional Applications, but TBH ive never heard of Forestrock where did you dig them up from? probably a Rebadge of something.

Post up your 5G Router model you have or as much info as possible and we can move forward a bit more towards your requirements.

Thanks for the reply its the 5GEE Router 2021 latest one on the EE website

Sticker on the bottom just says: 5GEE Router

And it does have 4 antenna ports on the back so was actually thinking this one:

https://quwireless.com/product/QuPanel-5G-LTE-MIMO-4x4

What do you reckon to that?

Is there no Model Number on the Router? not to worry, I going to assume the Router is the EE Locked Down version of the Zyxel if it has 4 External Antenna Ports, as a few of Zyxel Router 5G have.

The second link you have posted for the Antenna ( QuPanel-5G-LTE-MIMO-4x4 ) does look as though it covers the UK 5G Frequencies (N78) and looking at the Data Spec there does seem to be some confusion as to whether it covers EE's new 5G 700mhz Band (N28) but it does state it covers this Band on 4G (LTE), so assuming each of the 4 Antennas and Feeders within the Unit are the same spec then it should cover the 5G Band N28.

Also, it looks like the Coax Feeder Plugs on the above Aerial are SMA Type, so if they are, your probably going to need 4 x Adaptors to suit the Router Antenna Sockets, Im not sure what they are on the Router but if I was to hazard a guess probably TS9 Type, probably best to wait and see when the Antenna is delivered to double check, if you decide to go down this route.

Other than that I have not come across the above make of 5G 4x4 Mimo Aerial before, other than they are based in Poland, so Im not in a position to comment on the Aerials build quality and its working performance or compare it to my recommendations in my first Post, so if you do decide on this one perhaps let us know your thoughts of it.

For info, EE do an external antenna install service via 0800 079 0131.

They then sub the install out to TSG. My problem is that the external antenna has two cables (that needed adaptors to be supplied), but the modem has 4 connections. I'm struggling to confirm which 2 of the 4 should be used. Any help would be gratefully received.

Hi yes the antenna works perfectly

I was getting only 8mbps down and 1mbps upload with my old 4g one

and am now getting between 35-70 mbps down and 30 odd upload, it connects to 5g most of the time and if not picking it up switches automatically to 4g. I'm right in the middle of no where and on the edge of the 5g signal and can't get 5g with just my phone so the antenna is great

Yep it connects to all 4 and you need 4 of these to go inbetween

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B077JJPP1X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thanks for this. I think the one TSG have installed is this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Panorama-WMM8G-7-38-MiMo-%C2%ADten%C2%ADna-cable/dp/B07QNRYVXF

which is obviously 2x2 and explains why there are only 2 wires.

I'm still struggling to understand whether it matters which of the two ports on the router I connect them to (although I did see a significant improvement connecting them to the bottom two ports, despite TSG saying I should use the top 2.) Or actually, should they have installed a 4x4 antenna to make use of all 4 ports?

Thanks for this. I've just received mine. I note that the cables are individually labelled with A1(+45 and -45) and A2(+45 and -45). Did this affect how you plugged them into the router? I can imagine A1 is the top two ports and A2 are the bottom two, but no idea how to distinguish the +45s and -45s!
