New sim card, new number?

I am coming back to London from my year abroad with Uni. I do not have a UK phone number because, despite having been an EE customer for 3 years, my number has been deactivated. I am now trying to order a new sim card with a sim only deal, I have added a friend's contact number for the delivery. Does anybody know if the new sim card will come with a new phone number or will EE try to use my friend's number as my new number? I'm sorry if this question sounds silly, I'm just not sure how it works.

Thanks for coming to the community.

If you ordered a new contract this will come with a new number, using your friends contact number would not upgrade their account.
