Hi guys, just wanting to put this question to you on behalf of my Dad.

My Dad has a none smart phone, that he uses very rarely, in the region of three times a year.

When he last topped up at the EE shop (which was back in 2017), he explained that he wanted the old style pay as you go, where the £10 top up would appear on his phone as an actual money balance and any calls, texts would be deducted from this amount. But he has no idea what the person in the EE shop did to turn his sim card into the old style pay as you go.

I explained to my Dad that I'm almost certain that you just need to send a text to 150 with STOP PACK before topping up. But I just wanted to make sure for definite before he tops his phone up.

Also, is he still able to send a text to 150 if he has used up all the money balance?

Thanks guys.

Around three or four months ago no longer. He does this to keep his sim card active (I advised him to do this a while back when he topped up).

Yes, STOP PACK to 150 before you 1st top-up is the way to use the SIM for calls & texts but not data as normal PAYG at standard per-unit rates paid for out of your standing PAYG credit balance.

Yes, you are still able to use the Text Service with codeword texts to 150 even when the balance is 0. You may also receive texts from anyone wherever you are in the world FoC.

I've just passed on the information to my Dad and he said thanks very much.

He did ask me if he needed to use STOP PACK to 150 before every top up, or is this just a one off thing that he would need to do and from then on every top up he made would be like this (i.e. money credit that his calls and texts would be took out of).

I said to him that I think it's something he would need to do before every top up from then on, but I said I would make doubly sure and ask you 🙂

No, STOP PACK is a 1-off thing to stop the current pack reoccurring ever unless he buys another pack later on. Then another STOP PACK will be needed to go back to conventional PAYG.

From what my Dad told me, his usually method of topping up is in the EE shop, with either cash or via his E top up card.

I did explain that he could top up by text or telephone by texting or calling 150, but he asked if using the text, telephone method would mean he would need to text STOP PACK to 150 again, with it been a different method of topping up to what he normally uses.

He doesn't like packs (due to him rarely using the phone) so he would be very unlikely to buy a pack.

Thanks again for the help, it's much appreciated 🙂

STOP PACK only affects the pack & is independent of how you top up.

So to confirm, when he tops up next (by whatever method) and from thereon. He will not have to send STOP PACK to 150 before he tops up, to keep his conventional pay as you go method ?
