topic Contract end but cannot upgrade in Archived Posts

I recently took over a own phone number from the original bill payer, knowing it had gone well beyond its contract, by at least a year, so I was expecting to upgrade it as soon as I was ready and able. But since I've taken over and created an EE account for the phone, apparently I cannot upgrade until February of next year.

According to My EE, the phone's contract went from 01/07/19 to 01/07/20, but I cannot upgrade until 03/02/22. Am I missing something, or is this a mistake?

Thanks in advance.

@keys0guy if you take ownership of somebody else’s contract then you’re not allowed to upgrade for at least three months as EE need to make sure that you can pay on time. It doesn’t matter if the contract was actually overt it’s minimum term period when you took ownership.

What I don’t understand is why would you take ownership of somebody else’s contract that was actually passed its minimum term date and that person could’ve actually terminated it and then you could also took out your own contract directly without taking ownership.

I suppose it had not occurred to me to open a fresh account, just take over the phone I was already using now that I'm comfortable doing so.

Thanks for the info!
