I also use the Internet Speed Meter Lite Android app (there should be an equivalent for your phone) to keep an eye on my monthly usage and instantaneous usage. Hope things go ok as you wait for the minimum contract period to elapse.

Assuming the OP is using Android, the in-built data monitor is excellent for this sort of thing, and includes the ability to monitor usage app-by-app from month-to-month, broken down against WiFi & mobile data. The exact location may vary, but it will generally be under your data connection settings.

You can set the counting cycle to match your billing cycle. I dare say iOS has something similar.

My wife and I took out an EE SIM only contract earlier on this year, as we are both pensioners we took out one we thought would suit us only to find that we were running out of data well before the month was up. So I increased the data allowance and we are still finding we are running out of data before the end of the month, it's getting to the stage we are frightend to even switch the phone on and we are not big users of the phone as we only want to make/recieve calls and maybe the odd text. As I have broadband and halo with BT I was wondering if I could change to one of their sim only deals without incurring an excessive charge seeing EE is part of the BT group. The deal that would be suiting us with BT is 2gb at £6 a month for 24 month contract, being pensioners every little bit helps and if we could save a few quid that would be fab......

Why did you take out a monthly contract? Sounds from your usage you'd be better off with PAYG.

BTW: Please stop from typing in CAPITALS. On the Net it is regarded as SHOUTING.

@gordon812 , if you have broadband, then you should be able to use your phone with Wifi for data, which would save you buying more data. Unfortunately, you cannot just change supplier until you have seen out your contract without incurring charges, as @XRaySpeX has written and pointed out.

I do not understand how you are using so much data, unless you have a lot of apps running in the background. Might be worth checking what is running and switch them to only use wifi, this will save a lot of data, some apps can use a lot of data. Hope this is of some use to you.

Hi @gordon812 ,

I'm sorry to hear that things have not worked out perfectly so far.

The good news is that I've also been trying to save the pennies with about 2 GB/mth costing around £6/mth and it is doable with discipline.

The key thing is to turn mobile data off and WiFi on when in places with safe WiFi available. Things like software updates should be carried out over WiFi and mobile data reserved for use when out and about. I also use the Internet Speed Meter Lite Android app (there should be an equivalent for your phone) to keep an eye on my monthly usage and instantaneous usage. Hope things go ok as you wait for the minimum contract period to elapse.
