Sim only upgrade - purchase own phone

I want to upgrade to an iPhone 13, which I plan to purchase outright, ie not use any payment plan. Can I transfer my SIM card? All the advice on the EE website says I won't be able to upgrade before next March (I only took out a contract in September). I can see the point that EE want to know my reliability as a customer if I am paying for the phone over 24 months,. But if I am buying it outright, there is no risk to EE as I see it. Any advice, please?

@Xepa .. If I understand you correctly then yes you can move your existing sim over to the new phone. However you won't be able to change to a 'sim only' contract until you have seen out or paid off your existing contract.

That should be fine then, as I'm on a SIM-only deal. many thanks for taking the trouble to reply.
