Your SIM should not disconnect if this on pay monthly and you don't ask for this to be cancelled.

Thanks 🙂

Hi there

I have a pay monthly number/sim. I am currently in the UAE and will be here for the next 4 months.

I have been using my phone using wifi only (no data or calls) and would like to keep doing this however I am wondering if my SIM card will be cut off at a certain point if I am not using data and do not connect to a UK tower within a certain amount of time?

I was advised by the EE chat that my sim will not disconnect at any point as I am on a pay monthly number, and that a sim only gets disconnected after a certain amount of time if it is a pay as you go sim.

Is this correct?

Thank you

Hi @baelien

Pay-monthly accounts are not like PAYG that hibernate due to non-use, if you keep paying your monthly bills and don't give disconnection notice, then the contract will continue (and your phone will keep working) indefinitely.

You've mentioned being in the UAE, so it's not directly relevant, but the only issue you can sometimes encounter with long-term roaming within the EU is the stable-links policy. Contained at the bottom of page-2 of the roaming T&Cs here , it's intended to enforce EE being a UK-based operator and not designed for long-term use abroad.

The only practical consideration in your case, is that incoming text messages that are sent to you, are generally retained for 7days before failing back to the sender - so I'd recommend connecting to a local network at least once every 6days to prevent any issues.
