Upgrading my contract - EE will send me a new SIM, do I have to use it?

Hi,

I've had the same monthly plan for a few years now, and the same SIM for around 3 years. I got a text from EE stating my monthly plan was being retired but that I could get a better contract for a cheaper price. When I go to upgrade, they mention they'll be sending me a new SIM card.

Do I have to use this SIM card to get the benefit of my new contract even though the contract would take place account-side? I don't want my current SIM to be instantly disconnected by ordering a new one (if that's what happens) if I can just keep my current SIM card in, get the contract upgrade benefits and keep my number, and just throw the new SIM away.

Any help is appreciated!

Welcome the the community

A change of payment plan is just that - an account change that can be activated anytime.

Very often a replacement SIM will be sent out with a new device incase, for whatever resaon, your existing SIM doesn't work or is unsuitable. If your current SIM works, then do continue to use it.

Just make sure in this scenario, that you're not inadvertently taking out a new line with a new number and new plan. That would also explain the requirement for a new SIM.

So just to confirm, if they send a new SIM with the contract upgrade, it won't deactivate my current SIM in favour of the new one?

Thanks for posting on the community.

If you are sent a new SIM card with your upgrade, you would need to register the SIM here - myaccount.ee.co.uk/app/activate-sim if you upgraded with EE direct.

You can continue to use the old SIM card 🙂
