I have just upgraded from a Galaxy S5 Neo to a S20 5G. The new phone arrived a couple of days ago but I wanted to keep my number. The Sim was too big so I asked for another one which has arrived today. HOwever, the Delivery Note says "EE 4G INLIFE REP MULTI NON SERIAL SIM" - no idea what all this means but it does seem to imply this is a 4G SIM. Nevertheless, I went to ee.co.uk/simswap as per the instructions on the letter and activated the SIM. It is now active but showing 4G.

Any ideas please?

Are you in a 5G area?

Did you upgrade to a 5G plan?

5G isn't enabled for free by just getting a 5G phone. You need a 5G plan as well.

Yes David, that's what I thought - hence the reason I asked the question in the first place. My phone is showing 4G.

From my confirmation email my plan details are:

Plan description:

Your plan gives you unlimited data, unlimited texts and unlimited calls to UK, all of which you can use abroad in the EU. And if you have a 5G ready device you also get our fastest 5G speeds. Fair use policy applies.

I am wondering if its because I'm inside the house at the moment and the coverage checker says weak reception for 5G.

My main concern is the description on the deliver note of the SIM which states "EE 4G INLIFE REP MULTI NON SERIAL SIM" This seems to imply my SIM is 4 G when it should be 5G.

@Kytona all EE sims are capable of 5G providing the customer got a 5G plan & device which you have.

It's probably because the 5G signal is weak where you are at the moment.

I've been using my phone for a while now in different areas around Manchester. It always says 4G - never shown 5G on status bar at the top of the phone. Internet speed test shows about 20Mb in Failsworth (slower than my home WiFi).
