iPhone's will automatically download the correct carrier settings for the provider you are using.

What issues are you experiencing with your iPhone?

Thanks very much for getting in touch

I tried to find your response on the EE community but didn't know where to look

I have an EE monthly plan and new iphone XR with 10GB/month data which I can't use so i still have 9.9gb
when I am at home I use my EE WIFI home hub to get to the internet
when I am away from home I have no internet
when I am at home with WIFI turned off I have no internet
i can't use my phone as a hotspot for my laptop

settings;
software version 14.4
capacity 64gb with available 42gb
firmware 3.02.02
Mobile data is on
roaming on
using laptop with personal hotspot on, this only works if i have my mobile connected to my wifi hub on so still using my wifi hub data
wifi calling on
reset, reset network settings

i've tried lots of things but didn't record all of them
mobile data off and on
airplane mode turned on restart phone then turned off no change
remove and reinstall simcard

What happens if you try to load a web page in Safari with your WiFi turned off @johnelectrical?

and I can get to BBC weather and google maps via safari

Hi @johnelectrical,

It sounds like the problem has been resolved if you are able to connect to these sites while your WiFi is turned off.

Have you now tried to connect your mobile to your laptop

thanks for the follow up

yes I can now have limited access to the internet proving I go through safari

but direct access to websites are still showing as no internet

do you know why safari works, does it over ride a blocking mechanism?

still can't connect my laptop

Safari is the pre-installed web browser on your phone and accesses the internet in the same manner as any other app. What do you mean by 'direct access to websites'?

What happens when you try to view a webpage on your laptop when connected to your phone's hotspot?

with wifi turned ON on my iphone XR so I'm using the wifi hub for the internet

if I try to use my phone as a hotspot on my laptop it works but I'm not using the mobile data

with mobile data turned on and wifi turned off on my iphone XR;

if I try to use my phone as a hotspot on my laptop the iphone is not an option under internet access choices

using my phone

if I click on safari app and search for bbc weather I can get to bbc weather website

if I click on my bbc weather app on my phone, i get no internet access available

if I click on chrome app i get no internet access

if I click on firefox app I get no internet access

so I thought it must be in settings on my phone somewhere

if I go to settings, mobile data

I thought it was a short page of what I could see on the screen

I didn't realise you could scroll down to see mobile data option for each app

on my old mobile, which I had for years, I had 50MB of data,

so years ago when I bought the phone, I went through each app and turned the data off

when I bought the iphone XR they cloned my old phone on the new one

so I completely forgotten that you have individual choices for each apps access to mobile data

I have now turned on mobile data for all my apps

AND IT ALL WORKS, INCLUDING HOTSPOT

thank you for asking the all important question

do i have access to the internet using safari

I was amazed to find out I did, so I then thought the problem is with my phone not the sim or EE
