4G Upgrade Question

My home 4G is now out of contract, and I want to upgrade (better data allowance available now). The only upgrade options I see all come with a new router, but I don't really need one. Are there any options without a new router? If so, how do I get them? Thank you.

If you've already got a Router and you happy with it then all you need to do is to upgrade or move over to a SIM Only plan, have a look at Mobile Data or Tablet SIM Only plans, then choose a Plan that suits you, give CS a call and they will arrange it and start a New Contract.

CS Upgrades Team can sometimes get a bit bogged down with all the technicals when changing plans, so just insist you just need SIM Only.

Alternatively, with special deals here and there you could also consider an EE Phone SIM Only Plan with Bundled Data as these can sometimes work out more effective over a Data Only SIM Plan and will work fine in your Router.

Or why not just be a bit cheeky now your out of contract and ask CS for a Deal on a new Plan as an Existing Customer, just in Case you were thinking about leaving 😉

You could even get an unlimited data phone SIM-only that might well work out cheaper than a data SIM-only with limited data. You can buy these direct off the online EE Shop.

Thanks for your replies. That's interesting, I was under the impression the router needed a data specific data only sim. Won't EE cotton on to the fact no calls are being made, or doesn't it matter?

All EE pay-monthly SIMs are data-enabled.

Also by means of general advice - if you are calling C/S to do your change of payment plan, bear in mind many agents will take "upgrade" to mean a change of device and could cause some confusion.

It's unfortunate that the myEE online section has this "payment plan change" process under the "Upgrade now" link.

Yea, as said and as Bristolian says, it can be challenging sometimes, SIM Only is the key word, if asked you don't need use of the Data Only SIM anymore.

No, you may order a phone SIM for your router. Net Neutrality rules prevent any network provider dictating which types of device you may put their SIMs in.
