I received a free SIM I check out the performance in my tplink router before I commit to a plan . I only achieve 8mbps download but am aware that folk in my vicinity (guy next door using same router but on an unlimited plan) is achieving 60mbps! I added data, 200mb just to keep aligning and realigning the router position, but never got greater than 8mbps. Are these 'free' Sims days speed limited until such time I add unlimited data plan/pack?

I noticed on the ee Portal a statement that the unlimited plans are not throttled- does this mean by implication, that all non-unlimited packs ARE days speed limited?

Hard to sign up to a contract with EE if I can't perform a true speed test!

A free SIM would be a PAYG SIM. You can't get unlimited data on those, only on contracts.

I was forced to use a PAYG SIM in a mobile BB router for 2 weeks when my fixed Home BB was slammed by EE. It was atrocious. Either about 5 Meg with router on window sill over WiFi or about 2 Meg with router USB'ed to PC over "quasi-Ethernet", Thank goodness I'm now back on 38 Meg with real BB.

Contract SIMs are able to use more of the 4G spectrum, giving potentially faster speeds.
