Hi all,

This isn’t another problem thread, I am 99% sure that I understand what is the difference between gifting and tethering data, but can someone be that extra 1% to ensure I understand it fully?

So, I am currently on an unlimited data plan which is in fact 1TB data - fine.

I want to share my data to my laptop for leisure purposes, so I have that option to share my unlimited/1TB as normal.

The reason I get the 80% text notification is because the first 100gb (or so) out of my 1TB is “giftable” data. My understanding between the differences are:

Tethering - enabling your other devices to use your phones unlimited data using hotspot functionality.

Gifting - allowing your other EE devices to use your accounts data (up to 100gb) when your personal hotspot isn’t necessarily on.

The reason that many “tetherers” (in fact all tetherers) will receive the 80% text is because the first 100gb of data of the 1TB data used is the only amount that is actually giftable.

So for example, when the new month starts (and all my allowances reset) if I download a 100gb film, I can no longer gift any more data. However, I still have the ability to tether other devices for the remaining 900gb?

Does this make sense?

Correct!

You may tether up to 11 devices to your unlimited data SIM device & just use its data between them up to a total of 1TB pm less the amount gifted as per point 2.
You may gift data from the 1st 100GB pm only of your total data to the other devices under your MyEE a/c to be used by them when they are not tethered to your unlimited data SIM device, i.e. unconnected with your device.
The msgs that you get are just warnings that you have used a proportion of your your giftable allowance, not that you have necessarily gifted it (which is how many users mistakenly read it as 😞 ).
