I have just purchased a wifi box for my son but I note that I won’t get a sim as I have one in my phone so how will the wifi work without one?

Hi @Jackman11 ,

If you've purchased a 4G LTE mobile router stand-alone and not part of a 4GEE service+router, it will require a SIM card for full functionality (primarily access to the service provider's network and the internet). Good luck!

If you now need to obtain a SIM which you have not budgeted for, you may wish to look at https://kenstechtips.com/index.php/unlimited-data

A device purchased from EE will (almost certainly) be locked to EE so an online purchase could be returned otherwise you will need to take a service from EE which your budget may not allow, hence the above link is useful.

Personally, I take a mobile phone SIM from EE with Reserve Data so that I'm not disconnected once the allowance is used up. The unlimited calls and texts are unused in the 4G LTE router.

Where did you buy it? If you bought it direct from EE it will come with its own SIM on its own no. If you bought it SIM-free from elsewhere you are free to buy your own data or phone SIM, on contract or PAYG, from any network provider of your choice.

@mikeliuk : Text allowances may be utilised by mobile routers as most do SMS.
