Digital music library via ethernet network to the internet

Hoping someone can help here.

I am planning a digital music library setup using Roon.

The software requires internet access (predominantly for music streaming which I don't want, but also for licensing/updates) and is designed around wired ethernet to a router.

My only access to the internet is via an Osprey II mini which has a single usb port.

How can I connect the wireless only Osprey to an ethernet network?

Connect the USB to a PC. It will form a quasi-Ethernet connection. However the only reason for your s/ware provider recommending wired Ethernet is for performance. It should still work over WiFi albeit slower.

From reviewing the requirements, I feel your best bet is to replace the router with one which has multiple RJ45 Ethernet switch-ports.

A WiFi connection is likely to be fine for bandwidth but latency and stability may be worse than a wired connection.

I would be curious to see how you might progress if you cable the current router to a PC by usb per the above suggestion. 🤓

As it's only wanted for s/ware updates and licence checking a multi-port switch is hardly warranted.

I agree that if music will not be streamed over the network, and the music is not of any high quality, no wired connection will be required.

On the other hand, Roon seems to be designed to stream music to audio devices by network, USB, or HDMI so the network requirement will depend on the physical configuration. https://roonlabs.com/howroonworks

Licensing and software updates should ideally be carried out over WiFi and the USB wired connection to the router should not be required.
