Essentially I'm wondering why certain games seem to give me a high ping and others don't?

For example, Call of Duty Modern Warfare (2019) will have a steady 80 ping (already higher than the usual 30 - 50 I get on other games), which will spike harshly to 400 ish.

Battlefield 4 will also give me a consistent 130 ping on the most local servers.

Is there any way to help this? Or am I screwed?

Hi @Haza- ,

One way I've heard of to address this is to play using a VPN to give you a publicly routable IPv4 address and the possibility of opening ports to your gaming device.

The first time I heard this, I thought it was ridiculous (adding at least two hops yet reducing the ping/latency) but the reason is because most EE 4G LTE contracts/SIMs do not provide an IP address which is directly routable on the internet (or all ports may be blocked at the perimeter even if you do have a public IPv4 address).

I would also be interested to know why you get ping spikes for these two games in particular. 🤓
