Own Huawei B535 router with 4G EE 100GB sim. Virtually no download speed since April. EE shop say new mast could take till September 😞

Help!

Hi @gadger

Welcome to the community

When you say "virtually no download speed" - can you put a figure on that, and does it vary at all?

And by means of a first-line check, are there any network issues reported on the status tool ? Use "check network" to lookup known issues, and potentially also "report a problem" if nothing's showing.

From 5 sec to 10 minutes to load a page and downloading often impossible. Network issues reported on the status tool say 'NO issues'! very frustrating. Local EE shop say they have had mast problem since my speed issues started in April but say could be months before finished. Does not add up or make sense.

Are you able to force 3G and see the same?

Do you, or any friend/relations have an EE mobile phone that could be used to compare data speeds? If there is a network issue, a phone would be affected in a very similar way to your data device.

Have you used the "report a problem" link on the status checker to provide details of your issue to EE network teams?

That will let them take a closer look at the network in your area, and perhaps identify an issue that hasn't been spotted yet.

I appreciate you may not know this, but if the EE shop say there is a fault - but the status checker says otherwise - I would query with the shop staff whether they have reported the perceived issue.

If they haven't, they should do so. If there is an (as-yet undiagnosed) network issue, then it may be that increased numbers of users reporting their issues, is what causes a diagnosis to be made.

A few Kbps is absolutely terrible.

I used to get sub 1 Mbps with Three at peak times and a switch to 3G would improve things to perhaps 6 Mbps down.

60 ms would be ok for loaded latency but pretty bad for unloaded.

So Signal Details -

RSSI, -83

RSRP, -112

RSRQ, -9

SINR, 7

Band3 1800

Bandwidth 20Mhz

eNib 34430

All usable Signals be it the RSRP is a bit low, (anything better than -99 would be better) either low Recieved Signal or the Mast is a fair distance away, but still usable for Download. The Mast your registered on is in the Beverly Minster Church area but without knowing your exact location (don't post it) it's difficult to determine how far away or what other Masts could be closer for use.

You could try moving the Router around different Window Locations, Reboot after each move, and see if any changes to your Registered Mast is possible and how that may or not give changes in Download Speeds.

How did you get on with trying the SIM in a Phone for Speed Test purposes.

Thanks for your and everyones' support,

I'm in HU178LH and you might have found the problem. The Church where the mast is has been having roof repairs since the problems started in early April and local EE shop say they have put in temporary mast with the proper one to follow in late August!

Despite being almost usable this morning it's now awful again - this page took minutes to load. Maybe have to try '3' or Vod sim till they get it fixed.

Not tried sim in phone as yet

I'm in agreement with the above advice. Personally I check the SINR number more often than the others and have seen better than 10 Mbps down with SINR fluctuating between 4 dBm and 6 dBm so the advised signal parameters should certainly be usable and it's highly likely there's a problem with the service provider's infrastructure. (I currently have a router location with RS-SINR of between 10 dBm to 23 dBm and I don't plan to move it from there. 😀)

https://usatcorp.com/faqs/understanding-lte-signal-strength-values/

Unless you're out in the middle of nowhere, I'm surprised they don't just turn that tower off if it's known to be faulty (I'm sure they do have their reasons). I'm also surprised that your device does not simply reconnect to another tower, or that by occasional reboots it doesn't land on a good tower and camp there for a while.

I would recommend that you ask for a discount to be applied to your account, if you happen to open a chat or find yourself in communication with the service provider, as the experience you describe is completely unusable.

Your best hope is that your mobile may have slightly more advanced hardware which could help and you might tether to that. Temporarily going with another network is also a good play as I don't think anyone should wait minutes for pages to load. Good luck! 🤓
