Someone signed-in to your account.

I am getting TXT messages and emails from sites like Amazon saying some one logged on to my account from Glasgow, Birmingham, Hackney and London.

Why is my IP address showing these sites an address hundreds of miles away from where I actually am?

Constantly getting these TXTs and emails every time I logon is getting annoying.

But I will not turn off notifications on these sites for security reasons.

Your IP address changes. It can be hundred miles away.

Currently mine states 6 miles don from where I live.

But I've had London etc before as well

I'm using a 4GEE mini.

Do you know if EE can fix this problem as it is getting annoying.

Do these msgs coincide with times you yourself logged into these sites? It's likely that they do. Don't the sites ask whether it was really you & to ignore it if it was?

Geo-location of IP addys are notoriously inaccurate. Mine shows I'm 100 miles away in Wales when I'm nearer London. There's not much you can do about it. It's probably worse with mobile than with fixed BB as your public IP changes much more frequently.

Hi @Jax49,

Most apps that require your location are mobile based and would use your phone's GPS, rather than your IP address.

Yes, APPs on my device can use GPS. But sites like Amazon use IP addresses.

Yes, I've read your original post @Jax49

In my experience, sites like Amazon would only alert you if you are accessing your account from a device you haven't used before, rather than because the location of your IP address has changed.

I use the same tablet each time I access Amazon. And Amazon tells me in an email and txt the make and model of my tablet and that the tablet logged in a hundred miles away. I get a similar email from eBay and other sites.

Hi @Jax49,

Are you clearing your cookies and cache in between logins? This could trigger the alerts.

Do you use any VPN services?

Do you experience the same issue if you login via the app, rather than via your web browser?

No I don't clear my cookies and I don't use a VPN.

It is not my device, app, software, or anything else you want to suggest at my end.

If I type 'what is my IP address' into Google I get (from one site):

This puts my in London. In the middle of the Thames to be exact.

Why can't EE provide a correct IP for mobile internet device's like those for home internet?

They can find a device by cell data, why can't they use the same cell data to get a correct address?

IP addys are not meant to provide positioning. They are usually associated with wherever your ISP registered them with the IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) Registrant, The same goes for fixed home BB.

Amazon probably doesn't use cell data as it isn't tied to mobile access, but just uses the IP for all access. However ,as @James_B pointed out, it does id your device & offers not to check against that device in future.

Where does IP Address Lookup think you are?

I never said or suggested that Amazon use cell data.

OK, it doesn't look like the same site to me. They can arrive at diff destinations.

@XRaySpeXIs this anything to do with ipv6 and static ips? Im sure I read somewhere that on EE that can change the ip address each time?

You don't have a static public IP. It's dynamic &, yes, it is liable to change on every reconnection. Each 1's geo-location is still haphazard.
