Hi, I live in a rural area, not far from Darlington - I was on BT Broadband and had a speed of 0.5 mps, so have been using an EE Router for the last 18 months and getting an average speed of 31 mps - so much better/

My old EE 4GEE Router was working fine and I was using a Netgear EX6100 Extender to boost the signal upstairs, which is did fairly reasonably. I was due an upgrade therefore having paid £50, I bought the new 4GEE Router 2 - B625-261. After lots of setting up issues, the Router is now working fine.

However I still have an issue pushing the wifi signal upstairs. I tried to pair my original Netgear EX6100 Extender, but after reset etc etc, it simply would not pair. I therefore bought a EE Smart Wifi Disc (Round Disc), which was recommended, that will not pair also. But I have found out, that actually it is NOT compatible as the Disc is for a Smart Router and not simply a 4GEE Router. I also tried another brand new extender / repeater - still no joy.

I've been on the phone to EE, 3 days running speaking to their technical support, but they cannot give me a solution. All I want to know is this new router 'locked' and is there some setting that needs to be unlocked? Or just tell me what extender will work with this router, so I can simply buy a compatible model.

Does anyone have any experience with this new 4GEE Home Router 2 - B625-261 and any tips on how to boost the signal? I have also paid £100 for TSG to come out and hopefully put me an outside antenna up, which may also help, but they are not due out until the 15th January 2021.

Any advice, gratefully received. Thanks, Fred

Are you connecting the 1st node extender to the router by Ethernet?

Hi,

When trying to set the extender up yes - I am connecting it to the router using an Ethernet cable.

Hi,

Yes, I've been using the ethernet cable. But I have since been told that the Smart Disc is not compatible with the B625 Router, it is only for Smart Routers, not simply 4GEE.

Can't see how it can be. It's just a WiFi device.

I also can't see why you can't set the Netgear Extender with the 4GEE Home Router 2 in the same way as you did for the 4GEE Home Router 1.

I agree with this. The 4GEE 2 router is a router like any other. It should mesh with any wireless mesh system. And it should connect to any wired extender system.

I use mine with a Powerline extension system. It is connected by ethernet directly to plug 1 (a non-wifi extender - TP-Link, I think). Plug 1 then syncs to plug 2 (which is also just a non-wifi extender) and plug 3 (which is a wifi extender). Plug 2 goes to a switch with an ethernet wifi extender hanging off that.

All of the Powerlines were configured for a previous ADSL router. I then just plugged the 4GEE into plug 1 and it continued working as before.

The only thing that would have needed to have been changed is if you were doing wifi extension without having any ethernet connections.

Can you confirm exactly what devices you are using and how they are set up?

Hi Guys,

Honestly for some reason, the 4GEE Router 2 & the Smart WIFI Disc will not pair. The Disc goes through a series of lights - but then stays Red ‘not paired’....

However, after leaving the Router for 48 hours. I’ve now thankfully managed to pair my original Netgear 6100 extender.

I live in a really bad signal area - in a valley & we only have one mast in our area. I bought the Smart Disc as I thought I would be able to put a couple as advertised throughout the house to boost my signal. But as I say the Smart Disc will NOT pair. I have been onto EE, 3 times & they are telling me it’s not compatible & I firmly believe that. I’ve tried everything.

I do have TSG coming out on the 15th January & hopefully if they put up an outside antenna, that will improve the signal.

Thanks for your help & I’m hoping after the 15th that my issue will be resolved.

TSG will only improve the mobile signal to the SIM, not the WiFi signal.
