Hi thanks for responding; its an AC 750 4G LTE..? II am probably being really thick but I am not sure how I would see the text (other than loading to a spare mobile) because I am in that Catch 22 where I can't charge up the sim with an initial data pack because I cant register it because it appears to need to be in a phone before I can start?

I am trying to set up pay as you go as above on a TP-Link 4G router but is this possible? I ordered a mobile sim card to get going but it wants to confirm account by text which I obviously don't have so I cannot pay to load the data allowance. What should i be ordering?

I should add that I obviously don't want to buy a router which seems to be the only way to get going with mobile broadband

Yes, that router does SMS:

Table Of Contents - TP-Link Archer MR200 User Manual

Chapter 8 SMS

This chapter introduces how to use the SMS functions to view and write messages, keep drafts and specify the message center number. You can easily monitor your data usage by sending a message to your carrier.

This chapter includes the following sections:

• View Messages

• Edit and Send a New Message

• View Sent Messages

• View Drafts

• SMS Settings

You connect & login to the router from any device, say a PC, over WiFi to see & send texts. It's quite usual. You don't need any pack or allowance to receive texts & service texts to EE are free.

Nobody puts the SIM in a phone just to receive a text when the router itself can do it.
