slow 2.4g wifi on 4gee router

I have the 4gee wifi and can get up to 75mbps broadband. Normally its around 40mbps. This only applies on my pc, wired to the router or my phone when close to the router & accessing 2.4g. To extend wifi around the house I have tried ubiquiti and devolo. Either system only provides half the speed i.e. max of 20mbps. Why the difference and what can I do about it? As it happens its the same if I try 5g.

What type of WiFi extenders are you using? Are they Wireless, powerline adapters etc.?

I have tried powerline extenders and Ubiquiti Unifi. The power line ones work at less than half router speed. Unifi are extenders hard wired to the router. They operate at about 2/3rds router speed.

The speeds offered by powerline adapters will vary depending on the quality of your internal wiring. For help with optimising your WiFi extenders, please contact the manufacturer.

In this case it is not a extender manufacturer issue. The powerline extenders lose far more speed from the EE Router than they do from my old Sky Router. The Unifi extenders should not have a drop in speed. They are hard wired to the EE Router and at 5GH should be even with the router. They are not. There is a 1/3rd speed reduction. On the Sky Router there is no speed reduction. Common sense says the problem is the EE Router. I can find nothing in the settings to change or that would seem to be blocking the signal. At my pc, also hard wired, there is no loss of signal.

Hi @Ramplkev,

I'm not aware of any router settings that would cause a drop in speed when using WiFi extenders.

I'd still recommend contacting the manufacturer to ask if there is any part of your setup that could be causing an issue.
