EE signal boost or WiFi assist

Speaking to technical support, they’ve said that the signal box doesn’t support 4g

and as my WiFi assist works perfectly at home have decided to ditch the box as it’s been red for the last couple of days. Any comments please?

Getting terminology correct could be important here.

The EE signal box does not support 4G, that's correct. The boxes plug into your home broadband connection and effectively act as a 3G microcell.

If by WiFi-assist, you actually mean WiFi calling then that doesn't use 4G either. It allows any compatible phone to treat a WiFi connection as a mobile signal, so far as the user experience goes. In that, you can make & receive calls, send & receive texts over WiFi just as if you had a mobile network signal.

The signal box is old technology, WiFi-calling has superceded it. It has many advantages, but one significant one is that it uses the same core-network as 4G, so has the ability to seamlessly handover calls between WiFi-calling (VoWiFi) & 4G-calling (VoLTE).

Thanks for your prompt reply. Yes I did mean WiFi calling and as I said, my iPhone

works perfectly using this medium. One less piece of tech plugged into my system.
