Run without Battery

Good evening,

I have a 4GEE Mini Wifi box and use it most days, all day for work. I switch it off at night and charge it ready for the next day. The box gets hot when in use and charging which concerns me too.

I read in the manual that if you intend on using it continuously for 7 days or more on mains power, you must remove the battery to save damaging it.

How do you get the box to run without a battery, because I tried it and it didn't switch on? 🤔

The 4GEE Wifi Mini doesn't run from the mains. The mains are only used to charge its battery.

In the fold out instructions which are in the box, on the back it says;

If you intend on using your 4GEE Wifi Mini whilst connected to your charger for more than 7 days, then, it is advisable that you remove the battery to avoid any possible damage.

So it must be possible 😊🤔

Steve1996.. I've just watched a Youtube clip of changing the battery in one of these routers - reasonably ok for a handy person but it is not a job for the faint hearted! I would be interested to know if the router would still work with the battery removed as connectors have to be unclipped?

Hi - if you take the battery out you can run the wifi without it, by leaving the mini usb charge cable plugged in. That's how I use the mini wifi as it does overheat the battery if plugged in with the battery - as a additional step I have taped the mini wifi to a small usb fan to cool it down, as it does overheat. I think if it does overheat the wifi speed is ramped down.

I've managed to run it without the battery, and also noticed it getting very
hot as well. I think you're right about the speed, I've notice it drops if
the box gets hot. I put it in front of a normal house fan today to keep it
cool when charging, and it done the job nicely!

Thanks for the reply, glad that suggestion helped. I leave the battery cover off as well so that the fan can cool the circuitry inside the unit.
