You don't need to register a PAYG SIM to MyEE in order to use it. You sure the router is unlocked?

I am trying to use a new UK EE PAYG WIFI Sim in a 3rd party unlocked Marine Wifi Router. Have not been able to register the Sim as the Router will not connect to EE with the Sim unregistered. Have a text chat with an operator and answered a few questions and they advised Sim would be active within 24hrs. Thats not worked. Short of buying a EE Wifi box just to register the sim is there any other way to get to stage 3 where the card is registered. The Router is a long range one with external Antenna. Thanks
