How can I block categories such as pornography on my broadband connection?

I have just joined EE from Plusnet. I use to be able to restrict certain categories from my broadband connection e.g. pornography, violence, gambling etc.

There does not seem to be anyway to do this with EE. I have downloaded Norton Family which just does not offer a simple solution and is required on all devices. All I want to do is click on different categories I want to block and that it is applied to all devices connected to my network.

I have spent half a day on this and had no success. I am really regretting having moved to EE.

Does EE provide basic filtering on its broadband? I am not interested in trying to do this through a third party app.

@calscot Please have a read of THIS as you’ll be changing settings on the router to block websites.

Thank you for getting back to me. It is good to know there is a third party you can access if needed but I am surprised that EE does not offer a simple way to apply filters to their broadband.

Fortunately, I am within my cooling off period and have gone back to Plusnet as their Safeguard feature allows you to filter content by category at the click of a button.

While they are more expensive, it is worth if for the peace of mind.

I am in the same poisition as you left Plusnet for EE & now looking for the settings to block but cannot find anything. Shame on EE.

Virgin are coming to my area & will buy me out the contract but now need to find out if they have the power to block certain websites!

You need it with Teenage boys in the house!

Don't know if this will help but worth a try..

Open your 'my EE' app either on your phone or PC. Click the 3 bars in the top left corner then choose 'settings'. From there you can set content lock to strict, moderate, or off. The strict setting will not allow access to porn or similar.

Fair enough Chris, I'm using a 4G router so can set it for that. I thought standard broadband would be the same.

I went back to Plusnet as I was within the cooling off period.

Filtering at the source should be standard in my opinion.

I'm in exactly the same position, spent so many hours trying to figure this out, but finally found your comments and I think I want to switch as well. Does Plusnet still have this option available at the moment of blocking certain categories?

Yes. Switched back and happy with the ease and effectiveness of their filtering.

Is t this with your phone though and not computers? I have this all set on my phone which is fine but can still Google ‘porn’ on the home computer and my little girls Amazon fire tablet.

@Charlsims : For your Home BB connection, have a look at OpenDNS Family Shield . It just needs the DNS changing on your router.

I've just been trying to add the openDNS server settings to my router but it's really not clear how to do it. I worked out that I can change ipv6 server settings but checked properties of wifi connection to the router on one of the family Windows PCs and its using an ipv4 server. I'm very confused and need clear step by step guidance please. Otherwise I think we'll have to move to a provider who can help us.

Dunno why you are messing about with IPv6 settings. EE BB doesn't support IPv6.
